Rapex

In my class we were talking about abortion and how in the U.S everyone seems to think they know everything about it and know for a fact if it should be a legal or not…but what the U.S citizens don’t understand is that the women overseas have to have abortions to stay alive. Abortions are one of their few lifelines. Women are so often raped over there and not having the resources they need to have a safe pregnancy and birth of their child that a lot of women need the abortion because of difficult pregnancy or just because they are so young and can’t afford to bring a child into this world. I recently found out about Rapex, it is a device that helps women from being raped and to help the abortion rate go down. It is cylinder device that goes into the woman’s uterus and when the man penetrates it goes into the device but the teeth of the device sink into the man’s penis and can only be removed by a doctor for him, but for her she can slip the device out and get away. Think of it as a zip-tie. This device is more used in South Africa. Some people are thinking that this a horrible device because it is telling women that they have to adapt to rape, but if you are in a place that doesn’t have condoms or birth control or anyway to protect yourself from this harmful act then you aren’t adapting you are protecting yourself the only way you know how to.

Sexting

Sexting has become a hot topic in the past months with CBS and CNN having a news report done on the subject. Theses Television reports showed that 3 male high school classmates in Pennsylvania were charged with child pornography from receiving the sex text messages from 3 girls. It has also been recognized that 20 percent of teens participate in sexting and the problem is that the few teens that have been caught with these nude or semi nude pictures have been charged with child pornography and can be facing a lot of time in jail. Not saying kids should not be punished for this crude behavior, but it seems that this punishment is only happening to few kids when the rest of the high school is doing it. I also think if they are going to punish so harshly then in my opinion they should check everyone’s cell phone and/or everyone should be reported for this act of crime. I have also found out that a lot of these pictures that are sent are not from girls or guys that are aware of the picture being taken. A lot of them are being taken in locker rooms with other children thinking it would be a funny joke to do this. Something needs to be done about this, but I think it is a little harsh to be convicted of being a sexual predator for the rest of their life. The male that was on the CNN report says when he has to explain that he is a sexual predator it looks bad but when he turns 40 and people here this they will automatically think the worse not knowing that it was something stupid he did in high school and regrets. He says it will look 100x worse. I agree that he was punished and think he should be on the list with parole but I think he should be taken off the list after a certain amount of time. I think the government should put a little more thought into how to punish these kids.

Waiters

Lets paint a picture, you are sitting in a restaurant with your significant other, about to order drinks and the waiter asks one of you first. Who is this, the man. The question I propose it why must the waiter ask the man questions pertaining to the table, such as what people want or how the meal tastes. If we live in a world that is supposedly equal, why are waiters and waitresses trained to approach the men of tables. Women have just as much of a right to order for the table or themselves, we do not live in 1700th century Europe where women cant ask for anything for themselves.

"The New Math on Campus" What are you thinking!

OMG! I was sent an article that the New York Times wrote called “The New Math on Campus” (the link is below if you would like to read it yourself). I do not know if you all have heard of this or not, but when I read this my mouth was hanging wide open amazed at what theses college women were saying. To sum this article up it’s about a reporter discussing with a bunch of sorority girls that attend UNC. They discussed how there are not enough men on campus and how the women on campus or at least the girls they know are playing by the guy’s “rules”. It gets better, here’s the BIG OMG that I lost it on “As for a man's cheating, "that's a thing that girls let slide, because you have to," said Emily Kennard, a junior at North Carolina. "If you don't let it slide, you don't have a boyfriend." (Ms. Kennard, however, said that she does not personally tolerate cheating).” Personally who “allows” a man to cheat on them obliviously he is not worth your time ladies if he does not see how beautiful and wonderful you are inside and out. I personally do not care if there are no men on campus, you can go outside your little bubble and look for guys that attend a different college maybe? Did you even consider that UNC females? Anyways women need to learn to stand up for themselves and not allow men to run all over you whether it comes to the simplest thing as dating. Yes you might have needs and would like a man’s company but this does not mean you “do more than they’re comfortable with, to lock it down”. Women need to respect themselves no matter the circumstance.

Weird Laws

This seemed incredible to me but I was downloading an application onto my Ipod Touch called Weird Laws and I found out some amazing things. In Georgia it is against the law to start false rumors. In class we have been looking over stereotypes and some stereotypes can be caused by false rumors and it just amazed me that there was a law prohibiting it. Even with a law prohibiting rumors to be formed it still does not make an impact on people. We have also been discussing how women are degraded and are oppressed and I thought it was interesting to also see that in Kentucky buying a hat without your husband’s permission is prohibited. So women in Kentucky you are not allowed to buy a hat without your husband’s permission, how silly is that. Now let’s focus on the ability for men. In Mississippi, a would–be groom must “prove himself manly” prior to marriage by hunting and killing either six blackbirds or three crows. Now what happens if you a male is handicap? If he cannot shoot a crow or be able to even hold a gun or is blind is he still not consider a man? Is he allowed to be married to the love of his life or does he have to go to another state to be married to avoid this horrible law? In Illinois it is illegal to be broke, so if you unemployed then you were sent to jail. I have found out most recently that this was made a law so when slaves were freed they could not leave without having another job already at hand or without having money in their pocket. It was a way to keep slaves from being free. Theses laws just seem wrong and degrading to me and just really just made my jaw drop when I saw it.
